If you have recently broken a foot, you will find things quickly grind to a halt. In fact, there is never a good time to sustain an injury. The crucial part to staying sane during recovery is to find ways to cope with necessary day-to-day activities. Be prepared to take things a little slower as you are not going to be able to move as fast as before. Read about some handy tips to make recuperating bearable.

1. A broken foot needs clearance!

Stumble-proof your home for instance as you do not want to fall. Begin by tiding and clearing clutter so that all potential obstacles are removed from your path. Loose carpets and rugs are big culprits and as a result you do not want cause yourself to trip or get crutches stuck.

2. Find some oversized socks.

Start by making sure the socks can fit over your cast. In colder weather it will keep your exposed toes warm. Most importantly, the sock is used in this case to prevent the bottom of the cast from becoming dirty. You won’t want to sleep with a cast that has touched dirty public floors. Do put a clean sock on every night before going to bed.

3. Wear the right clothing.

If you have any pain in your broken foot, you may not want to pull anything over the area for a while. It would be much better to use loose stretchable pants that are easy to get on and off. You could even modify tracksuit bottoms by trimming off the cuffs so that you can avoid any close contact with your injury. Most jeans will not be able to get past a cast or moon boot. Wear comfortable shirts or tops that allow some stretch and movement especially if you are using crutches.

Chores that involve carrying or moving large items will need support from somebody. Ask a family member to assist with even shopping as you will not be able to carry much with crutches. Even the task of trying to get items that are out of reach from a bookshelf or grocery items will be out of bounds for the time being. In most cases people are happy to help and assist in anyway possible.
